History

It all began in a living room in 1997 when 10-12 people who loved God met to pray, worship in song, and study God’s Word together. This group’s main desires were to worship God, reach people in the Marshfield community with the gospel, provide opportunities to serve those in need in the community, and model global service for Christ. As the small group began to grow, they explored denominational affiliations and joined with the Evangelical Free Church of America. About the EFCA

1999 – 2001
Early in 1999 a national search was conducted for a pastor. After interviews and continued prayer, Larry Jones was invited to consider the church plant pastor position. He accepted and his family, Lynda, Grace, and Luke, moved from Texas in August of 1999. The group continued meeting weekly and in February 2000, Sunday morning worship services began in the Grant School gymnasium. Throughout the next two years, the church continued to grow, Bible Education classes were started, and a small group ministry was established providing opportunities for friendship and weekly Biblical studies in people’s homes. In 2001 a committee was established to locate a building or a parcel of land to build on for the church’s future home. The average attendance was now 140.

2002 – 2005
In April 2002 Cornerstone purchased the existing church building and land on West McMillan Street. With a permanent location, ministries to the church family and the community could be expanded. God continued His hand of blessing upon the church as visitors came and made Cornerstone their church home. In the fall of 2002, we held our first spiritual growth campaign, which became an annual event. This 4-6 week campaign would be instrumental in helping unite and mobilize the church family to serve God as they heard Sunday’s messages, music, and dramas, and did the companion small group study throughout the week. In 2005, the church went to two worship services and work began on exploring a building expansion program.

2006 – Present
In 2006 Tim Houk was called as Student Ministry Pastor and in August his wife Tonya and their four children, (Isaac, Caleb, Micah, and Abby) moved to Marshfield. Construction started in June 2007 on the Worship Center building that would house an expanded auditorium and lobby, nursery and young children's wing, library, and staff offices. The existing facility (nka Education Center Building) was connected by a walkway to the new building and would be used primarily for educational purposes for all ages.

These are exciting times as we focus on continued service to the Lord.

Our Purpose...to introduce people to Christ, help them grow in their faith, discover their ministry,
and honor God by living for Him everyday.
