Church History
Cornerstone Community Church grew out of a small group of 10-12 followers of Christ from diverse denominational backgrounds. They began meeting in homes weekly to pray, worship in song, and study God's Word together. The group began meeting in the fall of 1997. The primary desires of this group were to worship God, reach people in the Marshfield community with the gospel who were not being reached, provide opportunities to serve those in need in the Marshfield community, and model global service for Christ.
The small body began to grow in number. After months of prayer, and investigation of several ideas, the group met with the district church planter for the Evangelical Free Church of America. This was followed by months of weekly prayer, study of the EFCA doctrines and process for becoming an EFCA church. The support of a team of area Free Church pastors, along with visits and attendance at their churches solidified the decision to affiliate with the EFCA.
Continued meetings with district personnel resulted in selecting a Marshfield leadership team of three, and beginning the steps toward establishing Cornerstone Community Church. In early 1999 the search for a church planting pastor was begun with EFCA resumes, narrowed down by the leadership team. 21 people read and prayed through the remaining resumes collectively. After interviews and continued prayer, Larry Jones was invited to consider coming as church planting pastor. Larry accepted and with Lynda, Grace, and Luke, moved from Texas in August of 1999. The group continued meeting weekly, working through the developmental stages of an EFCA church plant.
Sunday morning services began in February, 2000, in the Grant School gymnasium. The present building was purchased in April of 2002. God's direction has been sought and has been clearly evident in the many stages of Cornerstone Community Church's development to date.
